Flag Retirement Ceremony June 14th at Castle Island

The Scottish American Military Society has announced that next Thursday, June 14th, 2018 ‘Flag Day’, and beginning promptly at 11am, the Flag Retirement Ceremony will once again take place on the parade grounds within Fort Independence at Castle Island, South Boston, MA.

This will be a joint effort by the Castle Island Association, The Scottish American Military Society, the Thomas Fitzgerald Post VFW and the Paul Saunders American Legion Post. Also, on hand with their outstanding Color Guard will be the South Boston Excel High School Army JROTC.

The Flag Retirement Ceremony held at Castle Island’s Fort Independence, as all who have witnessed them can attest, is a very impressive event. It highlights America’s patriotism and displays the proper way to dispose of old, damaged, torn and faded banners. In short, it gives ‘Old Glory’ the proper respect it so richly deserves.

Traditionally, the Flag Retirement Ceremony is conducted at Ft. Independence at Castle Island twice each year; once during Veterans Day in November and again on Flag Day in June. The public, as always, is invited and urged to attend and be a part of this very special ceremony.
