BOSTON –As Chair of the City, Neighborhood Services, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee, Boston City Councilor Ed Flynn held working sessions and hearings last week on the state of Veterans homelessness in the City of Boston with Councilor Althea Garrison, as well as the impact on Veterans’ services due to the recent partial government shutdown with Councilor Lydia Edwards.

Panelists that attended to offer insight and testimony included Acting Commissioner Robert Santiago from the City of Boston Veterans Services, from the New England Center and Home for Veterans -VP of Operations, Chuck Cody, and the Director of Housing Services, Meredith Christensen, Coleman Nee from the National Board of Disabled American Veterans (DAV), and longtime Veterans leader and advocate Tom Lyons who recently retired from MassHousing.

“I’d like to recognize the great work and professionalism of these organizations, as well as with the Veterans’ Posts in South Boston for their outreach and assistance to our Veterans, Military, and Gold Star Families,” said Flynn. “Thank you also to Mayor Walsh and his Administration for their efforts to address chronic Veterans homelessness in our city, along with the leadership of Congressman Lynch, Senator Collins, Representative Biele, Councilor Flaherty, and Clerk Donovan in support of our Veterans and Military Families.”
