By Kevin Devlin

Last Sunday, February 25, at Saint Agatha’s gym in Milton, the Gate of Heaven CYO girls’ high school travel team defeated Saint Ann’s of Dorchester, 42-18 to capture the 2018 Boston-South Shore CYO Vicariate Championship.

In the opening minutes of the championship game, Gatey came out running and gunning to take a commanding 18-6 lead. With 9:14 left to play in the game, Gatey had a 29-13 lead and cruised to victory. Gatey just had too much offensive firepower and height for their peers from Dorchester to overcome.  Gatey forward Jackie Czar netted 14 points including 2 three-pointers. Allison McGough had 10 points and 3 steals, while Jacqueline Beggan contributed 5 points. For Saint Ann’s, Marie McCarthy had 14 points.

South Boston Today’s co-MVP’s were Allison McGough and Jackie Czar. This team, coached by Allison Baker and Brianna Esposito, will now focus on the upcoming CYO state tournament hoping to successfully defend their 2017 state championship title.
