Locks for Locals

‘The Broadway’, one of South Boston’s finest new restaurants and bars and located at 732 East Broadway was the site of the recent gathering and fundraiser for the South Boston Special Kids and Young Adults (SBSKYA) party. It was a great time for all in attendance and it helped benefit a wonderful cause that has been near and dear to the hearts of the people in the neighborhood for many years.

Joe Arcari, the owner of ‘The Broadway’, hosted the event and has put in place a creative way to help raise funds to help support the group. It’s called ‘Locks for Locals’. Here’s how it works: When someone buys a lock, which is an actual standard pad lock, for $5 or $10 that lock is placed in a prominent location in The Broadway Restaurant on grates that have been set up for all to see with the personalized message of the donor’s choice on it. But to make it even better, that donation will be matched by the owner of The Broadway to double each contribution. Each Special Kid and Young Adult member has a lock of their own on the grate as well. This is something the folks at The Broadway also do for the South Boston Boys and Girls Club. It’s one way that the very generous and community conscious Joe Arcari likes to give back to the neighborhood and support local causes. He also served the crowd some great pizza prepared on site by the excellent chefs at The Broadway.

As most know, The Broadway has replaced the now closed ‘Boston Beer Garden’ and has quickly become known for its excellent food and drink and the fun filled atmosphere that has been attracting huge crowds from the first days it opened for business.

Well Known, respected and loved local Harry Uhlman has been one of the driving forces behind the South Boston Special Kids and Young Adults organization and has always and still does play a major role in making the group one of the best known around for the excellent work it does in helping others. The Special Kids and Young Adults; who have become as close as family with one another were all smiles during the party as they were having a wonderful time.

As was stated above, it was a fun filled gathering last Monday evening. When you combine some nice people, gathered for a good cause, excellent food and a generous host such as Joe Arcari, it can’t help but be a great event.
