Boston’s Tap Water Celebrated

Drinking Water Voted Top Five Nationwide

The Boston Water and Sewer Commission’s (BWSC) drinking water received honors from the American Water Works Association (AWWA), placing in the top five at the Tap Water Taste Test held this week in Las Vegas, Nevada.  BWSC competed against cities from across the U.S., Canada, and Mexico.

“I’m proud that the Boston Water & Sewer Commission has been recognized by the AWWA for Boston’s drinking water,” said Mayor Martin J. Walsh. “The employees at the BWSC work tirelessly to ensure all residents have access to the highest quality water supply. I want to thank them for their professionalism and passion in delivering this vital service to our residents.”

“It is an incredible honor to be recognized by our peers as one of the top five “Best of the Best” drinking waters in North America,” said Henry F. Vitale, executive director of Boston Water and Sewer Commission. “Our employees work diligently for the City of Boston to deliver the best quality water available, and today’s honor acknowledges our efforts and hard work.”

In May, BWSC was ranked highest in Customer Satisfaction in the Northeast by our residential customers in a J.D. Power study and received honors from the Massachusetts DEP for Outstanding Performance in 2017 and Systems Taking Action to Reduce Lead (STAR L) in collaboration with Boston Public Schools.
