GOH Coffee And Conversation Revived And Welcomed

A couple of years ago, Gate of Heaven parishioners Mary McCarthy Collins, Mary Maiullari and Karen O’Connor Evans approached Father Bob Casey and asked about reviving a ‘coffee and conversation’ collation that had been a family-welcoming parish activity. During the period of parish consolidation by the Archdiocese, this activity ended. Father Casey was happy to oblige.

This past Sunday, the rejuvenated monthly social was expanded from its usual muffin, pastry, donut and coffee fare, as the second annual Saint Patrick’s Irish Breakfast featured Irish bread, Irish bangers, baked beans, scrambled eggs and more. The annual breakfast is sponsored by Rep. Nick Collins. Fr. Casey regaled the 100 or so attendees with “The Fields Of Athenry”, as only he and Ronan Tynan can sing it.

As the churches of South Boston have been and are a safe haven for all, coffee and conversation has enhanced the spirituality of the Sunday Mass. Be sure to check out the Gate of Heaven and Saint Brigid bulletins for the next collation.
