Mayor Walsh Extends Deadline for Property Tax Payments

Financial Assistance for Renters also Available

For those Boston homeowners and landlords looking at a possible problem being able to pay their property taxes when it’s due on May 1st, Mayor Marty Walsh has announced an extension for those who qualify. The deadline has been extended to June 1st because of the Corona Virus situation.  City Hall says it understands that many people are out of work because they are either considered non-essential or perhaps their place of business has been ordered to temporarily shut down because of safety concerns.  The city will also waive any interest payments on late property tax and auto excise tax bills for until June 30th.

“During this challenging time, our priority and focus is for the health and safety of all those who live in Boston” said the Mayor. “Providing residents with more flexibility and options during this difficult time is crucial and I encourage all residents to access the resources we have available”.

The mayor also announced help for renters as well. He stated that the city is setting aside 3 million dollars to assist renters who are at risk of losing their rental housing because of the ongoing Corona Virus. The funds will help income eligible tenants in Boston achieve housing stability by giving direct financial relief to assist with rental payments. Applications for the rental relief funds are available now.
